What's on in Cornwall - February 2022

There’s an eclectic mix of things to see and do this month, from thought-provoking art displays to stand-up comedy, half-term fun, and a peculiar Cornish tradition that dates back over a thousand years.

ICE SKATING AT EDEN (1ST-27TH)

Eden’s spectacular ice rink is open until 27th February. There are several skating ticket types available to suit all ages and abilities. You can even hire a special skating aid to give young children extra stability. You’ll need to pre-book your slot online and also buy a valid form of admission to the Eden Project. ED BYRNE AT LAUNCESTON TOWN HALL (2ND)

Launceston Town Hall kicks off a new season of comedy with Ed Byrne. In his latest show, Ed takes a long hard look at himself in an attempt to determine whether he has any traits that are worth passing on to his children. He has appeared on BBC hit shows including Live at The Apollo, Mock The Week, and QI. Get tickets here.

THAO NGUYEN PHAN AT TATE ST IVES (5TH-)

Head down to St Ives and discover the fascinating work of Thao Nguyen Phan. Reflecting on the Mekong River, the exhibition intertwines myth and folklore with urgent environmental issues. You can expect a dazzling display of videos, silk paintings, and mixed media work. A new film and a series of paintings have been created especially for the exhibition. Find out more here.

ST IVES FEAST (6TH-7TH)

Fancy something a bit different? This ancient tradition celebrates the consecration of the Parish Church of St Eia in 1434 and offers the chance to watch the Hurling of the Silver Ball – an unusual form of rugby that dates back at least a thousand years; it’s one of Cornwall’s oldest traditions. THE KISS THAT MISSED, MINACK THEATRE (21ST-25TH)

The Minack Theatre’s breathtaking clifftop location is stunning throughout the year, even at times when you might need to wrap up a little warmer. This month sees a classic picture-book bedtime story brought to life. The Little Prince’s goodnight kiss has gone missing, so a brave and fearless knight is sent on a mission to bring it back. WE WILL ROCK YOU, HALL FOR CORNWALL (21ST-26TH)

Queen and Ben Elton’s worldwide smash-hit musical is returning to the UK and stopping off at Truro’s Hall for Cornwall. Experience the multi-million-pound show in all its glory at the new-look venue, which has recently reopened following an impressive £26 million refurbishment. HALF-TERM EXPLORER QUEST AT PENDENNIS CASTLE (19TH-27TH)

Falmouth’s Pendennis Castle is set to host a roster of fun-filled history activities over half-term. It’s a perfect opportunity for kids to get active in the fresh air and explore the grounds in search of games and challenges inspired by soldiers.
